(Haast Eagle)

"Pouakai" (Haast Eagle) is an homage to an extinct giant--returned to life in steel. Its 3 metre (nearly 10 ft) wingspan conveys an imposing presence, as it well should. This work of art offers a sense of the awe (and possibly fear) one would feel to witness it alive, soaring as the apex predator of the sky.

This is currently installed at The Lindis - Ahuriri, South Island, NZ.
Artist in Residence Steve Rumore incorporates the gliding flight given by enormous wings beautifully, making this a kinetic sculpture that rides the wind regardless of which direction it blows. This masterpiece will also always point downwind.
